Admission Arrangements 2024-25

(for children due to start Reception in September 2024)

Choosing a school for your child is a really important decision, one of the most important decisions you could make as a parent.  It is a decision that is best made by finding out as much as you can about the schools you are considering.  The best way to get to know us is to come and visit.  You will be warmly welcomed and shown around by a member of our Senior Leadership Team.

If you have a child born between 01 September 2019 and 31 August 2020, then you need to apply for a primary school reception place for September 2024.  You must apply through the link below if you are resident in Blackpool (if you pay your council tax to Blackpool or receive housing benefit from Blackpool Council).

The window during which you can apply for a place for September 2024, is open between the following dates:

1 September 2023 – 15 January 2024

We have one intake of 90 children into Reception each September.
Children start school in the year in which they become 5 years old.

Children are admitted on a full-time basis, unless there are reasons for not doing so.  Including our Nursery, we have 21 classes.  Children are taught in mixed ability groupings throughout school.

All children joining Reception in September are encouraged to join us for ‘taster’ sessions in June and July. This helps your child to become as familiar as possible with us, the building and our routines so that you and your child feel comfortable and enjoy their first days at Waterloo Primary Academy.

We can accommodate a maximum of 90 children in each year group from Reception to Year 6.  Nursery can accommodate up to 26 children per session.

Should there be more applications than places, the following criteria will apply:

*Children having siblings already at Waterloo Primary Academy;
*Children having a medical, special education need or specific need which means they need to attend;
*Proximity of home to Waterloo Primary Academy

If we are unable to offer a place to a child because a particular year group is full, parents and carers have the right to appeal. The Blackpool Council School Admissions Team gives admission guidelines in a publication called Guide for Parents’, available from School Admissions Team, Children’s Services, PO Box 4, Blackpool FY1 1NA. Alternatively, click here to take you to the Blackpool Council school admission appeal web page.

This provides you with essential information about the process of applying for a school/academy, and the criteria that is used to allocate places. You need to apply for a place at a primary school, even if your child attends a nursery that is attached to a school.

Waterloo Primary Academy has adopted the Blackpool Council Admissions Policy.
