Waterloo Primary Academy

Zest Academy Trust

Waterloo Primary Academy is the founding school of Zest Academy Trust. We are a converter academy, which means we chose to become an academy independently, rather than as a result of an academy order. This conversion took place in 2012.

In 2016, Zest Academy Trust was established as a multi-academy trust (MAT). The Trust is governed by a group of Trustees and Members who provide strategic oversight and ensure strong accountability across the Trust.

While we are part of Zest Academy Trust, Waterloo Primary Academy retains its own local governing body, known as the Academy Council. The Academy Council works closely with school leaders and plays an important role in supporting and challenging the school. Some decisions are made at school level through the Academy Council, while others are made at Trust level by the Trustees, ensuring the right balance of local knowledge and wider oversight.

As an academy, Waterloo Primary Academy is independent of local authority control. This gives us greater flexibility in areas such as curriculum design, staffing and the organisation of the school day, while remaining fully accountable for the quality of education, safeguarding and outcomes for children.
