Safeguarding & Child Protection

Safeguarding

The safety and well-being of all our children is of paramount importance to us. Our safeguarding policy ensures there are effective measures in place to safeguard our children from the risk of potential harm.
All members of our school community:

  • are aware of their responsibilities in relation to safeguarding and child protection
  • know the procedures that should be followed if they have a cause for concern
  • know where to go to find additional information regarding safeguarding
  • are aware of the key indicators relating to child abuse
  • fully support the school’s commitment to safeguarding and child protection

The Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs) for Safeguarding and Child Protection at Waterloo Primary Academy are: Mrs J Brown, Mrs C Courtney, Mr A Ball and Mrs L Fairnie.

Anti-Bullying

Keeping pupils safe from bullying is a key priority within our curriculum and wider school life. Through our values-based assemblies, an engaging and inclusive curriculum, and a clear behaviour policy, children are taught how to treat one another with kindness, respect and fairness.

We actively promote the British values of tolerance and mutual respect, helping children to develop positive relationships and a strong understanding of acceptable behaviour both in school and beyond.

Staff closely monitor behaviour and work in partnership with parents to address any concerns quickly and effectively. Our aim is to ensure that every child feels safe, supported and valued as part of our school community.

Prevent Strategy

The Prevent duty forms part of our wider safeguarding responsibilities and aims to support pupils in becoming safe, responsible and respectful members of society. Through our curriculum, assemblies and everyday practice, pupils are encouraged to develop critical thinking skills, resilience and an understanding of right and wrong. We promote British values such as democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance, helping pupils to feel confident, valued and able to make positive choices as they grow.
