Waterloo Primary Academy

Uniform

Waterloo Primary Academy has a school uniform that is worn by all pupils, and we appreciate parents’ support in ensuring children come to school in full uniform wherever possible. Our school uniform helps create a strong sense of belonging and ensures that all children feel equal and included as part of our school family.

Our uniform has been designed to be modern, practical, and affordable. Many items can be mixed and matched, and several pieces are available from a range of local supermarkets as well as our two uniform suppliers in Blackpool, helping families to choose options that best suit their needs and budgets.

We are also pleased to offer a selection of pre-loved uniform items, available free of charge from The Haven, our pastoral support centre. Any conversations regarding uniform support are treated with care, respect and complete confidentiality by our staff. If you require any assistance, please do not hesitate to get in touch, we are always happy to help.

All NEW Nursery and Reception starters will receive a free school uniform (excluding PE kit).

Hairstyles

As part of our school uniform expectations, we ask that children’s hairstyles are simple and suitable for school. This helps promote a sense of belonging and equality, and ensures that children are comfortable, safe and ready to learn.

  • extreme hairstyles, such as tramlines or mohicans, are not permitted
  • dyed hair, including temporary colours, is not allowed
  • hair that is long enough to touch the shoulders should be tied back neatly
  • hair bands and bobbles should be in school colours or black; large decorative bows (such as “JoJo” style bows) are not suitable for school

If you are unsure whether a hairstyle or hair accessory is appropriate, please do speak to a member of staff before your child comes to school. We are always happy to offer guidance and support.

Jewellery

As part of our school uniform expectations, we ask that jewellery worn to school is simple and appropriate for a school setting. This helps to promote safety, equality and a focus on learning.

  • one pair of small stud earrings may be worn
  • no other piercings or jewellery are permitted

For safety reasons, all jewellery must be removed during PE. Pupils are advised that any jewellery worn to school is their own responsibility, and the school cannot accept responsibility for items that are lost or damaged.

If you have any questions or are unsure whether an item is suitable, please speak to a member of staff, who will be happy to offer guidance.

Swimming

When children take part in swimming lessons, we ask that swimwear is suitable for swimming and follows the guidance provided by the swimming instructors and the swimming pool. This helps to ensure children’s safety, comfort and confidence while taking part.

  • suitable swimwear includes swimming trunks or one-piece swimming costumes
  • Bermuda shorts or fashion swimwear are not suitable for swimming lessons
  • long hair should be covered with a swimming cap
  • permission must be given by the swimming pool before a child may wear goggles

Swimming instructors will talk to children about these expectations as part of their lessons. If you are unsure about suitable swimwear or equipment, please speak to a member of staff, who will be happy to advise.
