Safeguarding &
Child Protection
Safeguarding
The safety and wellbeing of all our children are of the highest priority at Waterloo Primary Academy. We are committed to creating a safe, caring and supportive environment where every child feels protected, valued and able to thrive.
Our safeguarding policy sets out the measures we have in place to protect children from harm and promote their welfare. Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility, and all members of our school community:
- understand their roles and responsibilities in relation to safeguarding and child protection
- know what to do and who to speak to if they have a concern
- are aware of the procedures in place to report concerns
- recognise key indicators of abuse or neglect
- fully support the school’s commitment to keeping children safe
The Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs) for Safeguarding and Child Protection at Waterloo Primary Academy are:
Mrs J Brown, Mrs C Courtney, Mr A Ball and Mrs L Fairnie.
Working With Families
We believe that safeguarding works best when school and families work together. We are committed to building open, trusting relationships with parents and carers and welcome conversations about any concerns, questions or worries you may have about your child’s wellbeing.
When concerns arise, we aim to work with families in a supportive, respectful and transparent way, always keeping the child’s best interests at the centre of our actions. Where appropriate, we may also work in partnership with other agencies to ensure children and families receive the right support at the right time.
Anti-Bullying
Keeping children safe from bullying is a key priority within our curriculum and wider school life. We work hard to create a positive, inclusive culture where children are taught to treat one another with kindness, respect and fairness.
Through values-based assemblies, an engaging and inclusive curriculum, and a clear behaviour policy, children learn how to build positive relationships and understand the impact of their actions. We actively promote British values such as tolerance and mutual respect, helping pupils to develop a strong sense of right and wrong, both in school and beyond.
Staff monitor behaviour closely and work in partnership with parents and carers to address any concerns promptly and effectively. Our aim is for every child to feel safe, supported and confident as part of our school community.
Prevent Strategy
The Prevent duty forms part of our wider safeguarding responsibilities and supports our work in keeping children safe. Through our curriculum, assemblies and everyday practice, we help pupils to develop resilience, critical thinking skills and an understanding of how to make safe and positive choices.
We promote British values including democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance. This helps children to feel confident, valued and prepared to play a positive role in society as they grow.
